My Accord made a loud thunk when I started the engine and it rocked forward and back just a slight bit.

Asked by RaptorZ00 Jan 30, 2017 at 10:38 AM about the 2012 Honda Accord EX-L

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This is a 2012 Accord 4 cyl. automatic trans.  This has happened twice, first
time I looked and noticed that the front skirt was on the concretebump in
the parking lot, I thought maybe when I started it the car moved and the
skirt popped.  The second time it was in the street, nothing under the car.  I
turned the key and it made that loud thunk, the car moved about an inch
forward then rocked back.  I do not notice anything wrong while driving.
What could it be?

Check your motor mounts, it sounds like one or more are broken or worn. Since it is an automatic, it starts in park or neutral so your gears should not be engaged so it should not be the transmission making the car bang and jump unless the transmission gear selector or possibly the gear switch is out of adjustment, causing it to be either fully or partially engaged, but I doubt that. Sounds more like a bad mount(s) are letting the engine jump up or back when you first start it.
