Gear selector switch, shift solenoids problems, ECM problems or an internal transmission problem. Get a good transmission shop to run the tests.

If the selector shows, D, and the car isn't in gear, it's likely that there's a problem in the shift system, probably a broken or stretched cable or connection. Try moving the shifter a little to see if it engages between shift points.
