Rubber fuel line replacement?

Asked by blargwoman Apr 19, 2010 at 01:54 AM about the 2003 Dodge Dakota SLT Plus Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Today, I went to fill my truck with gas. The gas cap was missing, and then after a trip inside the gas station for
a new cap, I went to fuel up and gas went all over the pavement....

Long story short. I ended up on the ground looking up at this (See photo)

Its the rubber hose that goes from where you put the gas in, to the tank. I drove it home (and hour drive!) and
I'm on empty pretty much.

How easy is this to replace? What exactly is the part called?

that almost looks like someone doesnt like you very much....piss someone off? In theory, this shouldnt be a pain to replace. you can go to your local parts store like autozone, and see if you can get a hose that's the same caliber, and replace it with the old, cut one. that's just the theory...It may be a pain to get the hose that connects to the gas tank, and it looks like you have more than one hose that needs to be replaced. If you are uncomfortable with doing a job like this yourself, take this to a local garage near your house. There should also be a check engine light warning they need to clear. (P0440 or something, it pops up if it feels there's something wrong with the fuel pressure anywhere in the truck, from a missing or loose gas cap, or a cut hose line) sorry if this wasnt any help

this piece is called a fuel filler neck assembly, for most vehicles its available through your local auto parts store (napa autozone etc) but for a few its a dealer only piece, replacement is usually simple 3-4 bolts in the area of the gas cap, and a few screws or bolts on the gas tank, it took me a little under and hour to replace the assembly on my 96 ram 1500 hope this helps
