Fan under hood still blowing while engine off

Asked by Shawny216 Aug 10, 2017 at 08:15 PM about the 2012 Chevrolet Impala LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So about 3 weeks ago I had my alternator,
thermostat and battery replace in my 2012 impala
ls. This morning I was driving and the dash said
"Engine Hot A/C off". Now the reason I had those
things replaced was because my engine was
overheating and kept cutting off. Now.. it says the
engine is hot but the temperature needle is under
the cold line. Is hasn't moved all day and I have
been driving it today. When I open the hood the
fans are blowing very hard and cold air, they stay on
for about 3-5 mins then stop. Is it my engine really
overheating? And why is the temp. needle not
moving? Please any advice or suggestions

make sure everything under the hood is plugged in almost sounds like they didnt plug in the ect sensor should be a code if not have your car put on a scan tool and moniter the temp when the fans come on

Here what fixed my issue when the same happened on my 2013 Chevy impala LT. I was changing out the air filter and removed the master air flow sensor connector on top of the air box tube that goes into the engine. When I reconnected it my fans turned off. I guess if the engine can’t read the air it’s taking in it just goes to maximum fan speed ALWAYS ON.
