Does a 2012 Ford Explorer need to have power steering, fuel injector, transfer case and brake fluid exchange or flushed?Replace PCV valve?Deal with rear axle lubricant and front and rear differential?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought a 2012 Ford Explorer (25K miles) after owning a 1999 for
about a decade.  For that vehicle, I know all the maintenance intervals for
everything.  Now with this new vehicle of the same make and model, even
down to the XLT.  I now have no idea when the power steering, fuel
injector, transfer case or brake fluids need to be flushed or fluid
exchanged.  I also don't know when the PCV valve needs to be replaced.  If
the car needs to deal with rear axle lubricant or front or rear differential.  I
don't know much about trucks, but try my best to be proactive on
maintenance.  Can anyone help me, so I can know what to have on my
radar and what I don't?  Thanks so much!!

As far as changing transmission fluid, I recommend you do not follow the manual. I've owned 5 since 1996. When the 96 transmission failed I brought it to my tranny guy who I went to school with and now owns his father's shop. He asked how often I changed the filter and fluid. Since I didn't have the required miles on the odometer, I told him "not yet", due to recommendations in the manual. He suggested I bring the cars in every 40K for a fluid and filter change. I followed all his recommendations. Between the five explorers, only the 96 failed once. It represents over a million miles on five vehicles for model years 96 through 2007. All still in service.
