when I come to a stop car has a jerk in both down shifting gears. Does not do it when I put it in Neutral and come to astop. I also have heard a echoed clunk in the rear when come to a stop.

I'm going to assume you're driving a manual in which case it sounds like you've got one of two problems. First and most likely is that your clutch is pretty much gone and needs to be replaced. Second and still somewhat likely is that your differential is shot and can't handle the downshifts and needs to be looked at. Either way your problem has to do with how the power is being transferred to the rear wheels which explains why you're not experiencing problems when in neutral.
