87 BMW 325 I Conv won't crank

Asked by TD45 Nov 07, 2015 at 10:15 AM about the 1987 BMW 3 Series 325i Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I seldom use the car but start and run it about once a week. Battery was dead but would take a jump. I replaced the battery and now the car won't crank or take a jump start. Everything works when ignition is on but no sound from engine. If i jump the starter it spins but nothing else. I've checked all the fuses I can find but no luck. any thoughts are appreciated.

Due to the age of the car, I would recommend you thoroughly check out the wiring and since you also "jumped" the car you could have simply caused a short in a wire. Pay particular attention to the crankshaft sensor wiring and the starter wiring.

Thanks for the response. I've checked the wiring but I'll recheck a little more closely
