to move the gear shift you need to depress the brake. If you don't hear the click of the lock pin in the shifter when depressing hte peddle its likely the brake switch is faulty or broken or the actuator for the locking mechanism is faulty or not getting power. you can over ride the lock just pop the cover off and use the yellow switch or pull tab to release the mock manualy.
