Why are VW Jetta PZEV vehicles so much cheaper than the standard Jetta S or SE?!?

Asked by Eric Jul 22, 2015 at 11:36 PM about the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta SE

Question type: General

Everyone I've asked says it's simply
more environmentally friendly.. So
why cheaper?! Literally the same
exact model side by side, the PZEV
vehicle will average around $1,500-
2,500 cheaper. Always. Why is this??
What are pros and cons of each
type?

Cheaper, really? Well, that sounds like a great deal. Did you know that in California, cars sold with the PZEV designation are guaranteed to pass smog for 10 years or 150,000 miles. But, before you leap , have you considered an Asian car. They're better cars, especially Honda, Toyota and Subaru. Don't get a Nissan, horribly inconsistent.

My little 2010 jetta pzev whatever is doing me alright at 119,000 miles so far. Can't complain too much, though it's weird having 5 cylinders.
