Water intake

Does a 2002 VW Jetta have a water intake? A
mechanic told us that was the problem, it's leaking
real bad, and over heating. He told us we would
have to drop the motor to fix it. He told us it wasn't
the water pump, or head gasket. Help me please,
thank u.

You normally add water to the radiator reservoir. What exactly is leaking? Is it a freeze plug?
