Ck engine light and oil light on after shut off and key removed, draining Battery

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2004  escape v-6 ... first indication was dead battery.. Jump start and alarm and gauges go nuts that clears and vehicle runs normal.. after start left running to charge and all seemed good.  Upon shut down, oil light stays on (dim) . temp gauge stays up a few seconds then drops, once it bottoms out the check engine lite comes on and stays on Draining the Battery. Pulled all fuses one at a time.  Got to fuse 27 and when it was pulled the Check engine light went out. car starts and runs with 27 removed.. Can not extinguish check oil light .. It is not fully illuminated however. Any suggestions on possible problems causing this or other trouble shooting I can do??  Measure about 4.5 amp draw measured between neg batt term and neg bat cable when disconnected

Finally time to trouble shoot.. started pulling relays and fuses under hood, got to ALT fuse and 4.5 amp drain disappeared.... Put fuse back draw returned.. I disconnected two wire connector at alternator and draw disappeared. fuse in fuse out no draw. So I assume it is failed diode in alternator.. Strange thing is I reconnect wires at alternator and draw never returns, At least not yet.. Perhaps debris or moisture in connector from timing cover reseal about two weeks ago??? If the problem returns I will be replacing the alternator, or likely paying some one else to since it is such a pain in the ass to do..
