2012 Chrysler T&C will move sporadically while in gear.

Asked by Heath Nov 20, 2022 at 01:08 PM about the 2012 Chrysler Town & Country Touring FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I put van in reverse and wouldn’t move. Put van back in park then in reverse

again and it operated fine. Got on the road, stopped for a red light and van

would not go forward. Van would rev but not move. I didn’t hear any weird

noises. Van then started to move after putting in park then back in drive again

but eventually wouldn’t move at all. Check engine light came on.

Check fluid level if this model still has a dipstick engine warm and on level ground in park. Should be in crosshatch on stick cold on low end hot on other of crosshatch. If fluid is full it sounds like a plugged transmission filter, the filter is about 31.00 (before tax) you'll need 4 quarts of ATF+4 two cans of brake clean to clean surfaces and clean pan interior and a tube of permatex ultra black and some rags and drain pan.service time one hr do it yourself and save some money and get to pat yourself on the back.

If your fluid is under the crosshatch add one quart wait 3-5 mins before checking as fluid in tube will give false reading. If close to top of crosshatch top add ONE PINT see markings on bottle window DO NOT OVERFILL TRANS. use ONLY ATF+4 (mixing compatible fluids is not recommended).
