Asked by Barbara Sep 27, 2016 at 07:44 AM about the 2006 Dodge Durango SLT RWD

Question type: General

Check engine light is on..but my oil light came on
to. My hubby checked the oil and it was low. So he
added more. So the oil light doesn't come on. But
the check engine light is still on. Could there be
another problem? But all the other fluids are fine.
And the truck runs fines. ( SLT awd/ 4 lock )

Take vehicle to parts store like autozone and they will scan the check engine light for you for free to let you know why light is on.

you should be able to cycle the key on and off three times and it will tell you what code is stored and if you ran the engine low enough to kick on the oil light there is no telling what kind of damage could have been done even though it sounds fine. it doesn't take long for an engine with low oil to start to come apart just keep an ear out from time to time while it running if you hear anything odd get it checked ASAP. i just did work on one were it was run low on oil and caused the lifter to literally blow up and the metal went through the engine and killed it.
