Help Please?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Help Please? any idea on why my Escape is over heating, (temp gauge inside
doesn't move (stays halfway ) had new thermostat installed, no blockages,
fans seem to be working fine. I'm from Australia & I drove 8kms this morn, got
back home & no coolant left, all leaked out from overflow at the top.
Would it hurt to use just water & see how it goes? Very frustrating

The motor has a aluminum head or heads, don't know the engine size, but I suspect you have a blown head gasket now. When the engine overheats it will warp the head, heads. and possibly crack a head. The cause may have ben a bad thermostat, thermostat installed upside down, or the cooling system was not purged from air pockets when the coolant was refilled. You can do a compression test to see if there are any low cylinders indicating a blown head gasket or cracked head.
