If the keys are left in the ignition my car will start on its on, shut off and last night it seemed to be revving itself up while the lights are going from dim to bright. I feel like I'm living in the movie Christine. Living in the middle of no where this tends to freak one out. Any suggestions on what it could be?

It sounds like a short in the ignition. Maybe the lock cylinder wiring or ignition switch is loose or corrosion. Have an auto tech look the car over.
