my 1996 sebring wont start changed battery it will jump start but when I turn the key everything goes out and I have to take the positive cable off and thenreset it and then turn the ksy but all goes

Check the starter, it may have a short in it, causing it to short out the whole system when you turn the key. When you pull the battery cable, it will allow the drive to release, thus reseting the starter.

those were side post batterys, remove the negative and positive terminals at battery. Clean the connections, on the cables( the flat spot) retighten them and should be ok. GM had the same problem .

i had the same problem with our 1999 and we had to replace the alternator and the ac pulley locked up and had to replace it
