Amp replacement/ compatability (36670)

Asked by Togapete Jan 05, 2013 at 02:54 PM about the 1999 Chrysler Sebring JXi Convertible FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1999 Sebring jxi convertible amp  046712236AD  36670 Infinity  barcode 36837783 was under water and no
longer works. I read the schematic and noticed 2 wires off the C1 connector to the amp labeled convertible top
up (Red/Wht) and convertible top down (Yel/Blk).   If I install  a different amp (other than the original) will this be
a problem?  Is there a work around.   Do you know if the wires are picking up B+ or  ground?  I've been noticing
a few amps on ebay but the 10 digit part number is different and the 36670 is the same.  is this just a mounting
difference or is it a wiring  harness difference?

Sounds like the original amp increases the output when the top is down. Replace it with a regular amp and turn up the volume knob when the top is down.

Some of the numbers were superceeded or different lot numbers, and or made for specific trim levels based on the ohm resistance of speakers as the higher trim levels had upgraded speakers thats the difference 95-01 will work car to car. Ive had 4 jxis plus the 98 i own now i proloined my current infinity amp out of an 01 limited and it works fine. I dont post untrue comments or things that are not fact

I think this may be connected to an issue I'm having. My amp has been fully submerged (probably several times the top leaks bad) so when I'm driving the radio randomly cuts then only the small speakers on the dash work. 3,5 maybe 10 minutes later the door speakers come back on. That's just what you notice first. Next I found that when the door speakers cut off my exhaust immediately turns white/blue. Ohh and as of recently Everytime I put the key in the car alarm goes off and I don't know how to make it stop so I had to cut the horn and pull the headlight relays out.
