What is the object that sits on brake paddle

There could be a couple of things, brake light switch, cruise control dump valve to make a couple. A picture would be nice.

Break Peddle? At the top of the peddle at the firewall, that's the brake light switch. It runs the brake lights which you can check. It runs the brake-shift solenoid, and if bad, you won't be able to shift out of Park, so leave the shifter in Neutral. It also works with the ABS and cruise control.
