Can an engine blow while sitting overnight in a auto repair shop?

Asked by Vallowe2020 Nov 02, 2016 at 07:31 PM about the 2002 Chrysler Sebring LX Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Took my car for oil change and under good check
drive there with no noise from the car, and no
engine light. Had some front end repair done at the
same time. Loud knocking, clanking sound next
day. Repair personnel reports engine bearings
loose, car cannot be driven from the shop. How
could that happen???

What if the people at the oil change did not refill with oil? How long with the test drive after the oil change? Did the same shop do both the oil change and front end work?

I would bet they drained the oil and then started the engine dry. THEY OWE YOU A NEW ENGINE and THEY KNOW IT!

The oil change was done in the morning, a part of the front end was done that afternoon, and the rest completed up into 4pm the next day. Same mechanic did the work.

Engines don't magically blow up while sitting. It sounds like they killed your engine. If they won't fess up then have it towed to another mechanic that you trust and have them tear the engine down to see what happened.
