can you replace a 2003 2.7L (8th digit of VIN is T) chrysler sebring motor with a 1997 chrysler sebring 2.5L motor

Asked by amatuer969TM Jul 19, 2017 at 08:27 PM about the 2003 Chrysler Sebring LX Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am trying to find out if i can use a 1997 2.5L engine to replace the engine in
my 2003 sebring?  My 03 has a 2.7L engine and the 8th digit of the VIN is a T.
I'm not sure why the 8th digit matters, however when I was calling around to
salvage yards for an engine, that is what they asked me.  Thanks

8th digit indicates engine size. Replace it with what is in it.
