Check emissions system light

Asked by GuruVLNMW Aug 21, 2018 at 10:57 PM about the 2012 Honda Civic Coupe LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My check Emissions System light came on when I started my car today.  Gas
cap is on tight.  What causes this?    Had code pulled and said possibly
needs new thermostat but not over heating.  Does this sound right?

The problem is the O2 censor. As far as it goes for the thermostat, I'd have another place hook up a diagnostic to get the codes to make sure your thermostat's good.

My 2013 Civic is showing that, but I have noticed it only shows when the weather gets cold. It goes off once the weather warms up. I haven’t had it scanned yet. I live in Houston, TX, and we don’t have very cold winters.

2013 Civic; car has been very reliable - recently I noticed the car is revving lower on average and today, after a very COLD February, this check emission warning came on - haven;t checked it out though - if anyone gets any results pls post - or even email me @ maldotcom@hotmail.com - I wonder if this issue is specific to 2013 models
