if the ac compressor pulley is not turning could that be related to the alternator going out

my car was making a slight humming noise the othernight when i started it then i
noticed the battery light was on i drove maybe 2 miles my car wouldnt shift to the next
gear i put it in neutral for a sec then back in drive it started to drive then the same thing
again so i put it in neutral coasted off the freeway then the whole dashboardn lit up like
a x-mas tree then it died completely tried to restart nothing but the aaaahhhhgggg
sound your starter makes for a sec then nothing at all

May just be bad battery or alternator not charging the battery.
