Ford Focus 2012 loud popping noise without it being on??

Asked by Jacey Mar 19, 2016 at 07:36 PM about the 2012 Ford Focus Titanium Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I went to open the trunk of my 2012 Ford Focus and
this very loud popping almost bubbling noise just
started out of no where. The car wasn't on and
haven't been turned on prior. I turned in on after the
noise stopped and no lights or warnings appeared
and no fluids were low or visible leaks.

My 2013 Ford Focus has done the same thing twice. The popping sounds like hail hitting my roof and goes on for about a minute or two. Seems to happen when there is a big fluctuation in temperature outside. Kind of scary so I usually wait outside the car until it stops. It happens as soon as I open the door.

I had the same happen this morning, 10/10/17. We have a 2012 Ford Focus Titanium Sedan, The car wasn't turn on, I opened the back door and put a bag in the back seat. I closed the door. I then opened the front drivers side door and all of a sudden very loud popping noises started soundalike also like hail balls hitting the car - the popping was coming from the engine. it was escalating in noise level and scared the day lights out of me, I literally thought my car was going to explode next to me. We had a dash camera turned on at the time at it recorded it on video.
