Is this fair to make me pay for a new bumper?

I backed into a car, and left a scratch and now they want to charge me 700$ to pay for a repaint and a 3 day rental. Just need to know who thinks this is fair, or if I should take them to court like they suggested? I just guessed on the car details by the way, I have no idea what year it is.
