NTB-12-051I recommend reprogramming by nissan dealership

Asked by Laser_2055 Feb 09, 2017 at 04:37 PM about the 2011 Nissan Frontier SV Crew Cab

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have my service engine light on for a while. Need to smog truck but i cannot
because of it. Had it scanned and said it was the mass air flow sensor.
Replaced that reset the computer but then after a while of driving the light
came back up. Took it to a smog place where they ran a diagnostic and told
me this code popped up NTB-12-051i. they told me i would need to take it to
the nissan dealership to have it reprogrammed. Think it was sensor that needs
reprogramming. Well i called the dealership to setup a appointment. And he
wants to charge me 135 bucks for diagnostic. i already had one! the guy at the
smog said that the reprogramming should be free at the dealership. What
should i do?

The number NTB-12-051 is not a code but a Nissan Technical Service bulletin. Try reading it here. http://www.nissanproblems.com/tsbs/Altima/2012/

If the solution is part of a recall maybe Nissan will pay for it. Ask your dealer about that.

Hi, Laser~ I am wondering what happened with your situation? I am having the same problem with my 2011 Nissan Altima. My mechanic said the dealer should fix this problem at no charge. A handful of months back, the dealer where I bought the car said they will fix it, and that I just need to make an appt. Now when I call to make an appt. I'm told I have to pay $100 for a diagnostic fee which will be refunded IF the problem is related to this NTB-12-051 bulletin issue because Nissan will cover it. So infuriating!
