Do you have brake lights? Your brake switch might be the issue because it is tied to the shift interlock mechanism.

I have to push on the brakes to shift out of park. I believe that there is a connection at the bottom of the shifter and there is probably an electronic connection between the brake and the steering column.
My car won't shift out of park cant find the shift release button or take off the paneling around the dear shifter !
