odometer show wrong km number why ?

Asked by tino1122 Apr 27, 2016 at 02:13 PM about the 2012 FIAT 500 Sport

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I bought a car about 2 months ago, and when a bought the car it has driven
35609 km. So I been driving around with it for almost 2 mounths now, and
about 2 weeks ago I went on vacation so i just parked the car outside in a
week. A few days after I got home I noticed that the odometer now says that
the car has driven 29654 km, so it has been set back ! how is this possible? is
it because it was very cold so it has messed up the odometer ? or how can
this be ? and should i change the odometer ?

Odometers write directly to a eprom / eeprom chip through the CAN system and PCM the vehicles computer, most people or mechanics have no clue how to access or flash a mileage change, this is probably a fault in the system. I do NOT suggest you attempt to change the instrumentation cluster! The Federal Govt takes this seriously along with that it won't work! First thing to do is have the computer scan for codes. Check the computer is still showing km and not miles. You do this in the computer menu under Units. You may have inadvertently changed to miles. Beng a Fiat it may have done this for you....
