2011 chevy 1500 pinion bearing issues

Asked by Guru94GK8Z Sep 27, 2020 at 07:05 PM about the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Work Truck LB 4WD

Question type: General

I have a 2011 1500 Silverado and for some reason its
eating up pinion bearings. Has anyone else had this
problem? I don't abuse it but yes i use it as a truck.

Is the person who installs the bearings qualified to work on differentials? If you don't set them up right you will have problems. Also make sure the gear oil you use is correct. Another possible help would be to improve lubrication with a high capacity differential cover.

Is there any aftermarket applications with your truck that could affect the rear end? Are you using it to tow or anything that could affect the life of the bearing? Other then that the first answer make sure the first repair was done right and getting the backlash and ring and pinion gears has to be done correctly. If the pinion is either too far in or out it will eat the new setup right up. Has to be perfectly centered.

The only after market parts are rims, and yes i have used it to tow but nothing heavy, ( a trailer with about 2 ton) the garage just swaped rearends out with used .
