slow to come out of 4 wheel drive

Asked by JohnLabbe Jan 23, 2016 at 09:46 AM about the 2011 Ford F-150 FX4 SuperCrew 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It will go into 4 wheel high with no problems but shifting back, it is slow or will
not come out until going into neutral. Sometimes not even then. Mainly
happens when it is cold out.

I had the same issue and replaced the 4 wheel drive actuator. Works like a champ now. They are vacuum operated and the grease was really gunky and dried up inside when I removed them. Although yours is 4 years newer than mine it is a fairly simple process to pull the actuator and check if it is free moving. There is a great YouTube video that I watched and made the process simple. I replaced the front bearing assemblies while i already had it apart.
