The bearings in the compressor are seized up that is why the engine shuts off when A.C is engaged.

Check the belt and pulley.

I have a 04 Deville, The engine will shut off on idle, the minute I take the foot of the gas. Turned out the Idle Air Control Valve was the issue. I got the part (Delphi CV10012) from amazon for 60 bucks, had that put in. The car started and stayed on idle without any issues. A 60 dollar fix, my local mechanic quoted around 600 to have it looked at change few other parts. Life saver.
