i thinkmy key fob battery is dying. my doors wont open unless i use the actual key.

Asked by jdubya02 Aug 12, 2014 at 08:37 PM about the 2011 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 RWD

Question type: General

Sometimes it seems like the car doesn't recognize my key fob, After getting in the car using the actual key I'll try to start the car but it wont start. It will tell me to insert the key into the key fob slot. A friend told me that I should put the key fob in the slot whenever im in the car. Is this true. My wife tends to think that they key fob slot is draining the battery in the key fob

The slot does not drain the FOB. But the battery on the FOB does get weak and the vehicle has a difficult time recognizing the key RF signal. Replace the battery in the FOB and you should be fine.

I thought the battery on my fob needed to be replaced but I have a spare fob key. My car has an issue recognizing both fobs so it must be a different issue. What you guys think?

Paul, you can replace it by prying the key fob in half. there are many many videos on youtube on how to properly do this. then just trade out the small batteries. super easy!
