I have a 2007 Ford F150. I smell gas at times and especially when I cut it off and come back to it. It smells around the front and cabin. What can be causing it? The mechanic checked all hoses and there is no leaks from them.

A fuel-injection line may be leaking, causing you to notice the smell of gas fumes during and immediately after driving. A fuel-tank vent hose may also leak, causing unburned gas to exit your fuel system as vapor.

I don't mean to be mean here but if your mechanic can find the source how are we to guess? Gas fumes are extremely dangerous and nothing to mess around with. Tell your lazy mechanic to get off his ass and find the source so you are satisfied that you are safe in that vehicle.

Dumb mechanic = bad. Could be the carbon canister. Do you cram every ounce of fuel in it when getting fuel?

Our fuel system suppose to be completely sealed in your vehicle. No vapors of gas are to be sent into the air as per government regulation. Every inch of the fuel delivery has to be checked for vapor release, even the filler neck. If you have a combustion problem the smell can be coming from the exhaust system, but an idiot light should indicate a problem there. Same goes for all portions of the EVAP system. See if the mechanic scanned the vehicle for hidden codes.
