Asked by bentash Nov 14, 2012 at 11:20 AM about the 1999 Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My '99 Cad. Eldorado ran of of gas. I put almost 5 gals, of gas in it then tried starting. It would not start. A dashboard message says wait 3 min. then start. Did that but still did not start. Engine kept truning over, then battery went dead. Had a boost but still will not start. No more dashboard messages appeared.

have someone turn the key on while your listening near the fuel pump in the tank see if you hear it come on. fuel pumps usually last for about 10 years i think yours died. you could always try disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and reconnecting it to reset the computer or even pull the ecm fuse for a while plug it back in and see if she starts.

I agree with santapaws. If you ran the tank dry, you probably killed the pump. They require fuel in the tank to cool them. Good luck - they are not easy to replace and yours is probably due to be changed out anyway.
