Road Noise Front End Noise

Asked by Gwhaile Dec 21, 2018 at 06:47 PM about the 2011 Ford Escape Limited AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2011 Ford Escape has developed a noise and its driving me crazy. Its a constant thump, thump, thump noise that matches the rotation of the tires. From a dead stop to highway speeds. Almost like a big rock stuck in the tread, but just a little more muffled. Things I have tried:

1) Re-torqued all lug nuts. They were fine.
2) Rotated tires. Noise still there. I think the noise moved to the front, not sure.
3) Complete brake job both front and rear with all OEM parts. Thought it might be a out-of-round rotor. Noise still there. Didn't see anything unusual about the brakes with 58.000 miles on them. they could of gone longer, but the rotors might of needed turning.
4) Put my spare tire on right front after visually inspecting all tires. Noise seemed to go away. i don't completely trust this because the spare is so much smaller than my 19" wheels. That height difference "might" make a mechanical problem "sound" better.
Shops tell me its not a bearing,  Ive heard anyting from Tire Noise to bad Transaxle

This happen to anyone else?

2011 edge. Same issue. Front pads and rotors replaced but only a slight improvement. Braking makes the thumping more noticeable but it is there even when not braking. Can hear it about 50 km/hr and below, thump is faster at higher speeds. Any ideas? Was yours fixed?
