Replace a fuse box on a 2005 525i?

At my last service visit, my mechanic told me that I will have to replace by fuse box soon.  
It wasn't an immediate need, but it would need it soon.

Why would a fuse box need to be replaced?

There must be a problem with it or the mechanic needs to make a boat payment. Ask the mechanic what is wrong with it. Find a BMW forum and ask other owners if they needed new fuse boxes. --- There should be something you can do now to prevent any further damage.
