Check Engine Light, Runs Rough and White Smoke?

Asked by Greg Aug 23, 2015 at 05:32 PM about the 1995 BMW 5 Series 525i Sedan RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1995 BMW 525I and the Check Engine Light Just came on while I was driving, it started running very rough and lots of white smoke. I think it is the Crank Case Vent Valve/Oil Separator System. What are your thoughts? I have been researching online for a while today and if that is the problem I can not find the part any ideas?

White smoke is a indication of a blown head gasket, coolant getting into the cylinders, / Blue smoke is oil burning in the cylinders, / Black smoke is air fuel / fuel delivery system.

I have to agree with Jim, head gasket or cracked head.

white smoke is usual gaskets. too much water from exhaust gaskets too (head gaskets most likely ) BUT YOU CAN NEVER BE MISS CLEO AND PREICT UNTILL YOU INSPECT. Have a specialist diagnose your baby. Check pressure in exhaust and make sure your cat isn't clogged.
