323i bmw losing power

I am having trouble with my 323i e46 bmw and
need some advise our suggestion car drive but
losing power not going over 40mph not overheating
transmission strong And good oil good coolant
good and all belts intact what could cause this
trouble of losing power car not exhilarating over
2000rpm needed some help

The car is 16 years old when is the last time the car had a complete tuneup? Wires, plugs, cap, air filter and injectors cleaned.
