Common Repairs with 3 Series after 80,000km

Asked by Saif_Tee Feb 21, 2014 at 10:15 PM about the 2011 BMW 3 Series 328i xDrive Coupe AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What kind of repair costs can I be expecting after the 80,000km mark on my 2011 328i
xdrive coupe - manual transmission? (it is currently sitting at 73,000km and I will
probably put another 40,000 on there) Also, how much will my car depreciate over the
next 2 years? It was appraised by the dealership at $24,000 but I see plenty online
going fro $30,000.

I'm looking to either keep my car for another 2 years and purchase the extended
warranty or trade it in and upgrade to the new 435i xdrive so I want to do sort of a cost
analysis as to what I should expect in the next 2 years. My car is fairly loaded (I say
fairly loaded just because I'm not sure how much more it can be loaded, but at the
same time I dont want to say it is fully loaded in case its missing a minor thing or 2).

In regards to repairs. Follow BMWs scheduled 80k service. This will help keep trade value high. A arm bushings will show signs of wear along with other front suspension components. 50k 80k and 100k Are mileage points that the vehicle will take the biggest hits in value (depreciation). Adding factory CPO warranty may not be the way to go if you put excessive miles annually on the vehicle.

Stuff I've repaired: * control arm bushings, flex coupler for steering, etc. (symptoms: play in steering) * crankcase ventilation system (symptoms: escaping crankcase gas smell, foam at oil filler, bursts of smoke in exhaust) * wheel dents from potholes if not careful (vibration and shimmy) * remote control door lock / window mechanisms (failing to work) * clutch or clutch delay valve (clutch shudders until engaged)

This is kind of a mix of things fixed on a 2001 330cic and a 2008 328ic.
