Front End Fishtails

Asked by Discovery_2161 Mar 15, 2017 at 03:08 PM about the 2011 Toyota Avalon Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I goose the Avalon the front end gets loose
and effectively Fishtales. It is certified as new. A
different Toyota dealer says it is the torque and
they could find nothing wrong with the front end. I
suspect it could be the tires but I'm not sure.

Think real hard. You are going to pass someone on a two-lane road. You hit passing gear and the front end fishtails. Can you imagine the problem?

No. It's not quite like the rear end fishtailing on a car but it is the best way I can think of to describe it. The front end simply goes from left to right so rapidly and with such power that one almost loses control. Anytime you use the passing gear you better have both hands on the steering wheel and be ready. It is especially dangerous on wet roads.

Check for loose worn bent front end parts and frame geometry have it aligned. If spinning tires when hitting passing gear put on better tires. Check the transmission mostly if its an automatic car, because if its not functioning correctly thats your issue. I have clocked 100's of thousands miles in front wheel drive cars many perofrmance car and either there is some serious issues with your car or you do not understand how to drive it. Try easing off the gas pedal when in-acting the passing gear at least for now until you fix your car or get the feel of it. I have been cruzing at 100+ mph in fifth gear and down shifted to third gear and put the pedal to the floor and never fish tailed or any front end twitch nor loose control and even without asking you I know for sure I had way more power than your Toyota plus it was way lighter. If you bought it used I would do a car fax to see if it has been in accident. You may just have a car that is not straight.
