Is my truck burning too much oil?

Asked by shub61 Apr 21, 2020 at 01:03 PM about the 2010 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCrew 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2010 F150 5.4 Supercrew XLT with roughly 147,XXX highway miles on it using
Mobil1 5W-20 High Mileage motor oil. Burns roughly 2-2 and a half quarts
between changes (when light comes on). Is this normal?

That is a lot. My 5.4 with another 70,000 miles on it uses about 1 quart of 5W20 in 3,000 miles. You do not say what your oil change interval is so I don't know what your oil consumption rate is. You may want to switch to 5W30 oil.

Sounds like a lot to me. I have a 2010 F 150 with the 4.6 I burn maybe a quart between oil changes, every 5 K miles. The 2010 has 57,000 miles on it now.
