Problem with Top

My top will not secure and my trunk will not open
without me putting n key to open what could be
causing this problem

Please let me know if you ever got an answer for this. My top appears to be closed but it is not fully latched. Pressing the butting does nothing anymore and I get message on screen "Convertible top in operation" or"Convertible top malfunction". I do not want to spend a fortune to have it fixed. I just want the top to completely latch shut and stay shut.
