Changed a dead battery, now lightening bolt is on and starter won't turn. Why?

Asked by Guru9GFLCR Jun 20, 2023 at 07:57 AM about the 2010 Chrysler Sebring LX Convertible FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Battery went dead so replaced it with a new one.  Now nothing happens when
the key is turned and the lightening bolt symbol is on.  All the electrics on the
car work, the starter motor just acts dead.  What in changing the battery would
kill the starting circuit?

Did you use the memory saver tool before disconnecting main power? If not then you most likely set off the security system lockdown. The owners manual will have the shut down procedure listed for you make and model specifically. In severe cases sometimes the vehicle will need towed to a dealer for a re-flash of the system to bring it back up. So be aware that you may need to do that.

If you disconnect power from the car, that is you disconnect the battery without using a memory saver to maintain electrical current, all sorts of faults can happen. In your case, you initiated the security system which might have resulted from the car loosing the code to the key/fob . See a dealer to get out of this.

often alignment has to be just so, else interference and misalignment may take place, inspect the starter, make sure the case to face seems right without a shim~
