Why did my brakes lock out on ice and all I could was slide.

When I pushed on the brake pedal to slow down o  ice the brake pedal
started shaking and the brakes locked out providing "0" braking power.

Have your ABS checked. For future reference when you're in a dead slide like that let off the brakes, at least with your wheels spinning you have some hope of regaining traction.

ABS cannot create traction when there is none such as on glare ice. I think you need better tires such as Blizzaks.
