is it possible for the transmission drain plug to get loose just by normal driving?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2010 Subaru Outback. The transmission needs to be replaced, the fluid leaked out. The mechanic said someone loosened the drain plug. No one has been near the car. Is it possible for the plug to get loose by normal driving?

Do you live in the rust belt??? Could it be that it rusted off??

If you have to replace the entire CVT transmission, it will be VERY EXPENSIVE...
