Fuel gauge

Asked by Mark Feb 26, 2016 at 05:36 PM about the 2010 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited

Question type: General

Filled up my car with gas and the gauge does not register all the way to the
"full line" like it did the last time.    I did fill the tank from 3/4 full to top it off,  so,
I'm not sure if that's a factor??   Never noticed that before.  Any ideas?  Thank
you.

I know my gas gauge take a minute or two to get to it's new level maybe there is an air pocket in there, see how it does the nest time you get gas

My Subie has 225000 miles on it and is still running strong , it does leak a little oil so i have to keep an eye on it, i only paid $900.00 for it two years ago with 180,000 miles on it , i had the timing belt changed along with the water pump and cam shaft seal and all the belts and pulleys right after i got it . and this year i had a new exhaust system put on it along with a new fuel pump . It is a 2001 Outback

Hi Kinker, wow! You've put 45,000 miles on your 2001 Outback in two years and only paid $900 plus some additional costs for repairs. I would say that you're really getting your money's worth out of this car! By the way, you were right about a possible air pocket, next time I filled up, the gauge was perfectly normal. I just took my Outback to Joshua Tree National Park the last few days and it ran perfectly. Those 2.5 SOHC Four cylinders are workhorse engines. Pulled my teardrop trailer up the mountain with no complaint. I'm really glad I decided to purchase a Subaru Outback. Took it on some back roads in the park, they recommended 4 wheel drive, but, the all wheel drive handled it like a champ and took us through easily. My 2010 has just under 76,000 miles and runs like a new car. This is the second time we took the Outback through some rough terrain and unmaintained roads. The higher ground clearance of these vehicles really make them ideal for this type of journey. It shook us up a little but, not too bad considering the road we were on. When we got back to regular pavement, it was as smooth as silk. Stay safe on the road. ----Mark

Did the exact same thing, topped off tank and it did not register, have appt with dealer. But had a thought and disconnected the neg pole of battery, waited 15 seconds and reconnected, basically rebooted computer to rid it of so-called cobwebs. problem was solved, good luck to all----Michael
