Multi valve engines?

Asked by Mark Aug 15, 2015 at 11:00 AM about the 2010 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited

Question type: General

Do you think that an engine with FOUR VALVES per cylinder would normally outperform a
similarly sized or even larger displacement engine that had only TWO VALVES per
cylinder?    And what's the reason for this and is the one with multiple valves working
easier?

Bob, another person on this forum who is in the top ten category of car gurus, suggested to me that he would bet that a 2.5 litre Four cylinder engine would actually run cooler and more efficiently that a 2.5 litre Five due to its larger cylinders and better breathing. I thought I'd share this information with you since I know you like to stay informed. Also, see this picture I captured on the net about boxer engines. As you know, knowledge is power.
