Hi Grannyw! While those sites do help you buy a car, CarGurus is truly the best tool for what you are talking about. When you search for a used or new car you can specify an unlimited search area. This means anywhere in the US. When you click search the search results page will come up with every car fitting your description in the US ranked off of how good the deal. In addition to being easy to understand what deal is the best it also helps by giving you a number upfront. The idea being that if you wanted you could write the check, fly cross-country, and hand it to the dealer in exchange for the keys. Other car sites don't provide this level transparency for you (the consumer) so I would recommend that you start with CarGurus.
