I have a 2010 ford escape limited. How can I add more power to the engine, without burning more gas?

Do you have the V6? You can have the ECU reprogrammed. Get a low resistance exhaust system. Cold air induction. Things like that.

there are no aftermarket programmers for the ECU. no market for them. it's an econo-box suv.

Just Google" ECU Escape program" There's a lot them. Just do your homework. The cheapest one's aren't any good.
