It is difficult to diagnose the problem not having the vehicle to see, but does the engine turn but won't start, or nothing happens when you turn the key to the start position?

When I turn the key radio and lights turn on but no crank sound or anything, a burning smell does come from the engine.

Well, check the starter, it may have burned out and the smell is coming from there.
