chevy equinox anti theft override

Asked by Girlisintrouble Mar 28, 2014 at 11:55 AM about the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox LS AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My trunk was left open for over 16 hrs and my command start wouldn't work, I assumed
as did my ex-husband who came to boost me did, that the battery was dead.  He didn't
follow the manual (directions, really?) and must've hooked cables up incorrectly and
needless to say, there was no turnover after 20 mins.  The car symbol/unlock symbol
came on and I found out from manual that it's the anti-theft system was
tripped/activated? Help?

Not sure about you vehicle but sometimes turning the key in the drivers door keyhole will reset an anti theft system.

turn the key switch between ACC AND O (the middle notch) and press the reset button(RES) on steering wheel. the light will go off then you will likely need to preform a proper jump and the car will work fine <3

Similar thing happen to me. key/Remote's battery died then the alarm came on every time I tried to turn on vehicle. I did not have an extra remote/key.The anti-theft system came on my 2012 Equinox, My battery was dead and I wasn't going anywhere.I went to the dealership got a new key/remote cut for $60.00 dollars. I asked the service department to program it, they said it will be $89.00 just to diagnose the problem and I would have to tow it in. I went back home connected the battery charger to battery negative connection and positive post on the fuse box.I replace battery on original key/remote. I inserted key/remote in the ignition and turn it to ON position where everything turns on except for the engine. I left the vehicle charging and key/remote on the ON position for over an hour. I came back turn key to RUN and vehicle turned on, I left it on for a couple of minutes turn off remove key/remote put in new key/remote turn to Run left it on for a couple minutes. I took key out check the key/remote lock and unlock works great and I have a new key. No dealership service needed awesome.
